ADAPAR [Domene/Pérez]

2

In the enigmatic and elusive confluence where avant-garde jazz converges with the fervent intensity of metal, guitarist, composer, and sound designer Álvaro Domene, alongside virtuoso saxophonist and composer Álvaro Pérez, reunite to present the second instalment of their ADAPAR project.

Following their inaugural self-titled debut—a sonic tour de force, aptly described by esteemed journalist Andrey Henkin (Brooklyn Rail) as "Thirty-five minutes of unfettered brutality" (brooklynrail.org/2023/02/music/Blood-Brothers) —this latest offering propels listeners into a tempestuous realm characterized by volcanic intensity. This sonic maelstrom masterfully amalgamates the raw power of metal with the boundless creative expression of avant-garde jazz, thriving on a foundation of unpredictable and explosive structures that beckon the audience to explore fresh layers of musical intricacy.

"ADAPAR 2" builds upon the unconventional and asymmetric structures that distinguished the first release. Notably, this release exudes even greater weight, ferocity, and relentless vigor than its predecessor—a remarkable achievement which may have seemed implausible prior to its release. Álvaro Domene's hyper-detailed production, programming, and innovative guitar work seamlessly intertwine with Álvaro Pérez's frenetic saxophone performances. Of particular note, on ADAPAR 2, Pérez showcases his mastery across multiple saxophones, including soprano and tenor, in addition to his signature voice on alto saxophone. This expanded sonic arsenal introduces an additional layer of complexity and orchestral versatility to the album in relation to the first release.

The result, with each track channeling an explosive outburst of sound featuring wailing saxophones, blazing guitars, frenzied thundering drums, and a subversive and defiant spirit that permeates the compositions—evident in track titles such as "Uncompromising Rebellion" and "Hyper-Space Tachanka”— is an enigmatic sonic expedition that defies the confines of conventional musical boundaries, leaving behind a trail of smouldering wreckage.

In a musical landscape where the melding of jazz and metal often yields diluted amalgamations of styles, ADAPAR boldly asserts its unique position, showcasing that it is indeed possible to remain faithful to both traditions without compromising the authenticity of either. Here, the metal component isn't merely an accessory; it's an integral and deeply ingrained facet of their musical essence.

With this second release, the ADAPAR project confidently forges ahead, venturing into uncharted territories within the realms of jazz, metal, and experimental music in the 21st century. Play loud!
